1. Set parameters and place the sample. Set temperatures for "Sample," "Valve Box," and "Tubing" to 50 degrees Celsius, 130 degrees Celsius, and 140 degrees Celsius, respectively. Once the temperatures stabilize, introduce the sample, wait for 30 minutes for equilibrium, and proceed with the following steps.

  2. Pre-sample purging. Set the purging pressure to 0.2-0.3 MPa. Press the purge button, close it approximately 30 seconds later.

  3. Prepare for sampling. Insert the sampling needle into the corresponding vial, then insert the sampling needle into the chromatograph inlet. Observe the pressure indication on the headspace sampler, which should increase from small to large. Once stable, adjust the "Carrier Gas Adjustment" knob to increase the pressure reading by one grid (0.02 MPa).

  4. Sample injection, start sampling. Press "Inject" and simultaneously operate the chromatograph to start sampling. Listen for a "click" followed by a "pop" sound. After 2-3 seconds, remove the sampling needle.

  5. Withdraw the sampling needle. When the injection light goes out with a "pop" sound, remove the sampling needle. Reset the "Carrier Gas Adjustment" to zero.

  6. Purge for 30 seconds to complete the current sampling.

The principle of headspace sample vials is to place liquid or solid samples in a sealed glass vial, maintaining over half of the headspace with gas. After achieving equilibrium at a constant temperature, extract the headspace gas from the sample vial directly into the gas chromatograph for separation and analysis. The septum at the injection port is typically made of silicone rubber, serving to prevent gas leakage.
